Binance: Full Operations, Impact & Industry Review (2026)
Binance is a cryptocurrency exchange with the highest trading volume and number of users worldwide.
1. Overview & Scale
Binance is a cryptocurrency exchange with the highest trading volume and number of users worldwide. As of November 2025, Binance has a user base of 297+ million people , and by the end of 2025 their community crossed 300 million registered users worldwide.
Since its 2017 launch, Binance has expanded at remarkable speed to claim dominance as the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange. Daily trading volume on the platform exceeds that of any competitor, and traders benefit from deep liquidity that enables large order execution with minimal price slippage.
In 2025, Binance reported over $7.1 trillion in spot trading and an 18% jump in average daily volumes, with $34 trillion in total trading volume for the year.
2. Products & Services
Binance is a centralized exchange that supports 500+ cryptocurrencies and more than 1,500 trading pairs. Its main products and services include spot, margin, and futures trading. You can also trade options, or use copy trading and Earn services to generate passive income. One of its standout features is Binance Alpha, a platform that supports early-stage crypto projects.
The top Binance trading products are spot, margin trading, perpetual futures contracts, instant convert, P2P trading, copy trading, OTC desk, and trading bots.
Binance today is positioned as a top destination for active and professional traders looking for advanced market instruments, deep liquidity, and tight spreads. USDe has become one of the most promoted assets on Binance, integrated into spot trading, Simple Earn, futures collateral, and launchpool events.
3. Fees
Binance is one of the lowest fees crypto exchanges. Standard fees are Maker = 0.10%, Taker = 0.10%. Paying fees with BNB offers a discount of about 25%, and increasing VIP levels will lower the fees further. Crypto deposits are generally free, with users only paying network fees on withdrawals.
4. Institutional Presence
Institutional trading volume grew by 21% compared to the year before, and OTC fiat trading volume shot up by 210%. In 2025, tokenization moved closer to operational use cases, including tokenized funds used as eligible off-exchange collateral under Binance’s institutional collateral framework.
Binance and Franklin Templeton co-developed digital asset investment products bridging traditional finance and Web3. Partnerships expanded Binance operations into the UAE, Singapore, and 20+ regulated markets.
5. Security & User Protection
Binance keeps most of customer funds in offline cold storage, and its hot wallets hold only what’s needed for daily operations. Account security includes two-factor authentication, biometric login options, address whitelisting, anti-phishing codes, device management, and real-time risk monitoring.
As of September 2025, Binance reported that its SAFU (Security of User Assets Fund) wallet had a reserve of over 1 billion USDC. The company has also helped over 7.4 million users and recovered assets worth over $229 million.
Binance publishes a monthly proof-of-reserves update using a Merkle-tree liabilities snapshot with zero-knowledge enhancements. Users can log in to verify inclusion of their balances and view on-chain addresses for covered assets.
6. Regulatory History & Compliance
This is the most complex dimension of Binance’s story. In November 2023, Binance reached a $4.3 billion settlement with US authorities across DOJ, CFTC, FinCEN, and OFAC. The company admitted to Bank Secrecy Act violations, unlicensed money transmission, and sanctions violations. CZ stepped down as CEO, pleaded guilty, and served four months in prison. Richard Teng took over leadership. A five-year independent compliance monitor now oversees operations.
A separate SEC lawsuit from June 2023 ended when both parties filed for dismissal with prejudice in May 2025, which blocks any attempt to refile charges.
On the positive side, on December 9, 2025, Binance announced that it had secured three licenses under the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) framework — a top-tier regulator in the UAE. The licenses cover exchange services, clearing house operations, and broker-dealer services.
MiCA officially came into force in January 2025, standardizing crypto rules across all EEA member states. Binance has actively worked to comply, and only regulated, euro-backed stablecoins are now allowed for trading and payments in EU jurisdictions.
7. Industry Impact
Binance captured about 37.34% of the global Bitcoin spot-trading volume in H1 2025, amounting to over $3.44 trillion.
Binance prevented $6.69 billion in potential fraud in 2025, strengthening market integrity and supporting greater institutional participation.
Binance Alpha 2.0 surpassed $1 trillion in trading volume and onboarded 17 million users in 2025, distributing $782 million in rewards across 254 airdrops, while risk controls blocked 270,000 dishonest reward participants attempting to game campaigns.
Binance formed 27 global partnerships in 2025 across governments, fintechs, and tech firms. University programs sponsored by Binance trained 10,000+ students globally in Web3 and crypto literacy.
8. Limitations & Criticisms
Americans must use the separate Binance.US exchange that offers around 200 cryptocurrencies only, with no futures, margin, or options products, and several states including New York, Texas, Vermont, and Hawaii don’t allow Binance.US at all.
When compared to other cryptocurrency exchanges, Binance deducts a higher commission from staking rewards — 10%. VIP loans come with a high minimum borrowing requirement of $500,000.
